USPTO to Hold Seminar on Intellectual Property Enforcement in China

The Commerce Department’s United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will sponsor a seminar on "General IP Enforcement in China" on Wednesday, April 13, 2005, in Baltimore, Md.

    Mark Cohen, the IP attaché assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, will present a comprehensive introduction to the Chinese system for intellectual property enforcement and a summary of the Chinese Supreme People's Court's recently issued judicial interpretation on "Handling Criminal Cases of Infringing Intellectual Property."

    Elaine Wu, attorney-advisor with the USPTO, will give a brief presentation on the STOP! (Strategy Targeting Organized Piracy) Initiative, and how it relates to China. The STOP! Initiative is a joint effort of the Departments of Commerce, Justice and Homeland Security and the USTR to crack down on counterfeit and pirated products around the globe and help American businesses secure and enforce their rights here at home and in overseas markets.
